Meeting minutes from the RobHC BOF, 1999-11-09 ---------------------------------------------- Except from what was covered by the presentations, following the agenda, these issues were questioned and discussed. Most of the notes below originate from questions asked by the audience. - To be useful for the 3GPP release 2000, "something" almost stable should be available in Mid-2000. - Steven Casner: Questioned if the radio access network should not be modified when introducing IP, meaning that its characteristics could be changed. - Question about end-to-end encryption. The conclusion was that IPSec can not be used with HC. - Rosenberg & Casner: Asked how Nokia handled the case of lost FH in the beginning of a session. - VJ: Noted that linear transformation between several fields could be used. - Can ACE work on simplex links?? NO!! - VJ: Is it a reasonable requirement to request ordered delivery between compressor and decompressor?? - VJ: What is the delay due to? If due to several reasons ; how is the distribution of the contributions? - Deering: Why 1E-3?? - Borman: IPR in general; Nordmark: IPR not a problem really, it is up to the WG. - VJ: Link-layer behavior (HDLC -> LLPC-like); Degermark: Modifications also needed at transport level (UDP-lite). - Nordmark: Commented that other cellular/wireless issues could come up too.... - Other standardization bodies than 3GPP should be considered; Degermark: They are welcome...... - Robust TCP HC. It was decided that TCP should be included in WG Charter. There was consensus about the need for IETF to work with this and a WG was suggested (no HUM against). COMMENT: No one talked about UDP. It makes no sense to do IP/UDP/RTP and IP/TCP but not IP/UDP so it should probably be included also. // Lars-Erik Jonsson
